Why SSJE: Colin Johnstone
The world is a broken place and I think you can pinpoint areas of the world—the Middle East, Africa—where it’s broken in different ways. I think the brothers seek ways to reconcile people to God’s love and they attempt to do that in proactive ways, by going out into the world, rather than just sitting at home in the monastery and praying about it. Clearly they pray about their mission, but I think there is an answer to their prayers: They go out into the world to help, in whatever ways they can, to heal the broken world, heal people who are broken physically or spiritually. Hopefully a gift I can make to the order will have some good, not just immediately, but will resonate through the years to come.
