Forgiveness
Innocence means “not yet wounded.” We are all in some sense wounded and in need of forgiveness to salve our wounds. This is our ministry as followers of Jesus Christ: to constantly be open to our need for God, partly through the need to be forgiven and to forgive; and to point to Christ, the One who finally and fully sets free and lets go the burden of our confessed evil.

The gift of Forgiveness
In English the verb forgive comes from the Latin perdonare, which means to give thoroughly and wholeheartedly. To forgive is to wholeheartedly give it up. It’s an offering, and act of “oblation.”
