Clothing of a Novice
The Community was pleased to celebrate the clothing of Br. Todd Blackham on Sunday, March 15. While we regretted that the wider public was not able to share with us in the joyful event, it remains a sign of promising and hopeful new life, even in such challenging times. We wish Br. Todd joy as he enters into the next chapter of his religious vocation.
This was a deeply reflective and meaningful article. I really appreciate how it explores the concept of clothing from a spiritual perspective rather than just a physical one. The idea of “clothing a novice” is presented not simply as putting on a garment, but as a powerful symbol of transformation, commitment, and identity within a religious community.
What stood out most to me is how the act of wearing the habit represents an inner journey. It’s not just about appearance—it reflects a deeper calling and a willingness to embrace a new way of life. As highlighted in similar reflections from the community, clothing in this context becomes a visible sign of an inward change and dedication to spiritual growth. ()
I also found it very interesting how clothing is used as a symbol of belonging. In everyday life, what we wear often reflects our personality or social identity, but here it represents something much more profound—a shared purpose and connection to a spiritual tradition. ()

Wonderful news! I was at the Julian Retreat with Br. Keith. I enjoyed seeing Br. Todd light the candles in his regular clothes. Now he is clothed as a novice. Such affirming news is a bright spot in our challenged world!
