Icon

The New Testament Letter to the Colossians begins with a description of Jesus: “He is the image of the invisible God.” The actual Greek is, “He is the icon [eikon] of the invisible God.” Jesus puts a face, body, name, heart, and hands to the otherwise “invisible God.” Jesus is the icon of the invisible God.
