We often want God to come in magnificent ways. The truth is God comes in as a tiny baby, in Jesus kneeling at the feet of his friends, crowned with thorns, hanging on a cross. Perhaps our task this Advent is to lay aside our vision of a magnificent ‘breaking in’ of the kingdom of God, and look instead to the lonely, outcast, and forlorn.
