In the calendar of the church we remember today Saint Barnabas, an early member of “the company who believed in Jesus.” Drawing on the Gospels and Saint Paul’s writings, we can be quite certain of at least several things.  For one, he was not one of the original twelve disciples.  He was an apostle – that is, someone who was “sent forth” – not unlike his friend, the apostle Paul.
